Mélanie Monfrance obtained her master degree of Sociology at Tilburg University with a particular interest in social inequality and the role of education herein. In her master thesis she focused on social inequality in non-cognitive skills. Currently Mélanie works as junior researcher in two research projects at TIER, Maastricht University as well as Fontys University of Applied Sciences. One research project focuses on parental involvement in primary education, especially in disadvantaged schools (project coordination by Fontys University of Applied Sciences). The other concerns the effectiveness of summer schools to prevent retention (evaluated by TIER, Maastricht University).
